Children’s Community Theatre is expanding south in an effort to provide local children more opportunities to be involved in theater.
The first CCT South musical will be “1776” and all rehearsals and shows will be in the Sandwich and Somonauk area.
“1776” follows John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson as they attempt to convince the members of the Second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence. It is a funny, insightful and compelling drama with a score by Sherman Edwards and book by Peter Stone, based on a concept by Sherman Edwards.
Auditions for “1776” are open to children ages 7 to 18. They will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 15 and Sept. 16 at Somonauk Baptist Church, 315 E. North St. in Somonauk. Children should come prepared to sing a short song a cappella and cold read from the script.
All genders are encouraged to audition as parts will not be cast based on gender.
Performances of “1776” will be Jan. 24 through Jan. 26 at the Sandwich Opera House.
