New Life for Old Bags

10:30 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month – next, Aug. 10 – at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. Volunteers turn discarded plastic shopping bags into plastic yarn to be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Donations of plastic bags can be left at the library. Book Sale

Friday, Aug. 16, through Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. The sale will be held in the meeting room during regular library hours. Beginning on Aug. 24, all items will be sold for $4 a bag. VHS tapes and audio cassettes will be free throughout the sale.

Worship in the Park

10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, in Lathrop Park, 100 N. James St. Congregation members from area churches will join together for a time of prayer, praise, song and fellowship. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Free Lunch at the Library

DeKalb County Barn Tour

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at barn sites in Leland, Somonauk and Waterman. Participants will receive a map and guide book containing hand-drawn sketches of each barn and its history, style and use.
