Open Door clients were busy this past winter building birdhouses, and are now hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday to show off their wares. This event will be at the Open Door administration building, 405 S. Wells St. in Sandwich.
These custom-made, wooden birdhouses are created by the Birdcrafters of Open Door, a group of individuals who are learning woodworking skills and entrepreneurship from staff and community volunteers.
The community is encouraged to stop in, meet the Birdcrafters team and take a look at their goods. Each birdhouse is made from recycled wood and will make perfect Mother’s Day gifts. There is a recommend donation of $20 for birdhouses and $5 for squirrel feeders.
The Birdcrafters program is one of many opportunities offered at the Open Door vocational training workshop. Programs such as this enrich the quality of life for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
For information about this program or if you have recycled wood to donate, call Open Door at 815-786-8468.
