MILLBROOK

Jam Session

6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Millbrook United Methodist Church, 8360 Fox River Road. Hosted by the Northern Illinois Bluegrass Association, the evening of music, snacks and fun is free. Listen to local musicians playing banjos, guitars, violins, mandolins and bass cello, solo and in small groups.

Men’s Breakfast

7:30 a.m. the fourth Sunday of the month – next, Jan. 27 – at Millbrook United Methodist Church, 8360 Fox River Road. Each month includes a speaker who presents on topics of interest to the community. Past topics have included taxes, senior citizen programs, political perspectives and conservation issues. Spaghetti Dinner

4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Millbrook United Methodist Church, 8360 Fox River Drive. Dinner includes spaghetti with meat or meatless sauce. Spaghetti squash in place of spaghetti noodles also will be available. The meal includes coffee, iced tea or water, and a dessert. Suggested donation is $8.

NEWARK

All-you-can-eat Kumla Dinner

4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Helmar Lutheran Church, 11935 Lisbon Road. The menu includes ham, kumla (like a dumpling), applesauce, dessert and beverage. A baked potato can be substituted for kumla, Carry-outs available. This free-will donation dinner supports the HLC Food Pantry, which has grown from serving 10 families to 120, twice a month, in its 11 years of operation. For information, call 815-695-5489.

Winter Treasures Garage Sale

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Carlson Building (old Baptist Church property), 101 S. Ottawa St. Fundraiser for the Fern Dell Historic Association. Lunch will be available. Donations from the public, including dishes, glassware, clothing, books and decorative items, will be accepted from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, Wednesday, Jan. 23, and Thursday, Jan. 24. Bowl for Veterans

Prizes for first-, second- and third-place bowlers, 50/50, and raffles. Proceeds will benefit Rolling Thunder, a nonprofit organization that advocates for POW-MIA service members.
