Franklin Mall Christmas Mall Project volunteers filled food boxes for the needy

Cardboard boxes were filled with nonperishable food by volunteers of all ages Dec. 19 at the Sandwich Fire Station as part of the Franklin Mall Christmas Project. Nearly 250 grocery boxes were delivered Dec. 22 to deserving families and individuals living within the boundaries of Sandwich School District 430. Each of the boxes also contained a gift card for food at Art’s Food Market. The sharing effort was started by the late Franklin and Peg Mall in 1954, and has been administered since about 1970 by the Sandwich Lions Club. Persons wishing to make financial contributions can send checks, made out to the Franklin Mall Christmas Project, to the First National Bank, Attn: Deb Krafft, 100 W. Church St., Sandwich, IL 60548; or to the Sandwich Lions Club, P.O. Box 32, Sandwich, IL 60548.
