The Tri-County Kiwanis have wrapped up their eighth annual coat drive.

"It was a resounding success," said a news release from the club. "It was a true testament to the generosity of those who live and work in our community. The club would like to thank everyone for the donated coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves and blankets. Many items were brand new. There was a surplus of some items and the club has made arrangements to have them distributed to the homeless in Chicago."

With the coat drive now finished, club members are already thinking of next year, when the coat drive will run from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31. The earlier start will enable the club to distribute coats at the start of cold weather. The greatest need is children’s sizes, thus, as your children outgrow their coats this year, please keep the club in mind for next year.

The club wishes to acknowledge and thank those businesses that provided drop-off locations. They are Old Second Bank in Plano, Last Chance Saloon in Millington, Art’s Food Market, First National Bank, Heartland Bank (in Somonauk, Sandwich and Plano), Midland State Bank (in Sandwich and Plano), Country Companies Insurance (Kathy Martin), Dr. Mark Weinhold DDS dental office, and Rural King.
