Grant gives first responder programs at IVVC a boost

Thanks to a $3,252 donation from TransCanada Corporation, Indian Valley Vocational Center in Sandwich recently was able to purchase portable radios that students use for training in three programs.

This donation adds an important aspect to first responder training for the emergency medical technician, fire science, and law enforcement programs.

As communication is key in keeping first responders, community members and property as safe as possible in an emergency situation, the use of portable radios plays an integral part of most skills and scenarios that students learn through hands-on practice. Students learn how to effectively and correctly use portable radios, which helps them become quality employees for jobs in community departments.

TransCanada, which has a regional office in Sandwich and operates the nearby ANR Pipeline, has helped IVVC fund other safety projects in recent years.
