Norwegian Smorgasbord

New Life for Old Bags

10:30 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month – next, Nov. 10 – at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. Volunteers turn discarded plastic shopping bags into plastic yarn to be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Donations of plastic bags can be left at the library. Veterans Day Dinner

5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at Leon Burson Post 395, 510 E. Dearborn St. Capt. Al Roberts, a 10-year veteran of the US Air Force, will be the speaker. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. Cost is $15 per person; all veterans or active military members attend for free. Seniors 60 and older pay $12 and ages 8 and younger attend for $4. Night at the Casino

6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Fox Valley Older Adults Services, 1406 Suydam Road. Hosted by the Somonauk Education Foundation, this fundraiser will include craps, roulette, poker, blackjack, 50/50 raffle, silent and choice auctions and a cash bar. Tickets cost $15 in advance at all Somonauk School District offices or $20 at the door.

Memorial Dedication

1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at VFW Post 1486, 713 S. Main St. Rolling Thunder of Illinois Chapter 1 will conduct a dedication of a granite-based memorial at the Post. The community is invited. Event includes a table ceremony, special guests and refreshments.

Pancake Breakfast

8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 17, at the United Church of Sandwich, 512 E. Lions Road. Tickets are available at the church office or on the day of the breakfast. Cost is $7 for adults; $4 for ages 10 and younger; $20 per family (up to five people). The local Girls Scouts in Sandwich will be assisting in this fundraiser.

Glen Ellyn-Wheaton Chorale

125th Annual Turkey Dinner

3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Shabbona United Church of Christ, 104 E. Navaho St. A bazaar featuring baked goods and crafts will begin at 3 p.m. The buffet-style dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m. Cost is $12 for adults, $6 for ages 5 to 10 and free for ages 4 and younger. Carry-outs cost $12 and can be picked up between 4 and 6 p.m. There are no advance ticket sales.

SHERIDAN

Monday Supper

American Legion Fish Fries

The Nov. 16 special is open-faced roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans and includes the salad bar.

Spaghetti Supper
