The Voluntary Action Center of DeKalb County has named Barb Nadeau of Plano as external affairs manager addressing community and government relations.
Providing services to address basic transportation and nutrition needs in DeKalb, Kendall, LaSalle, Putman and Bureau counties, VAC depends on social engagement and outreach to fulfill its mission. The new external affairs manager will concentrate on strategic planning, government and community relations, local funding and awareness campaigns, and volunteer engagement.
Nadeau comes to VAC after more than four years working with Senior Services Associates Inc. of Kane, Kendall and McHenry counties. Before that, she worked for more than 17 years in television, radio and print media for Nelson Multimedia Inc. She also served as a radio news reporter and anchor for 13 years.
Nadeau lives with her husband, Mike, in Plano, where she serves on the Plano City Council as Ward 1 alderwoman. She also serves on the Grundy Kendall Community Action Board.
Located in Sycamore, VAC operates five senior lunch sites in DeKalb County. For more than 10 years, VAC has operated in LaSalle, Bureau and Putnam counties with meals on wheels, senior luncheon sites and transportation programs. VAC began operation of the Kendall Area Transit program in Kendall County in 2010.
In her new position, Nadeau will collaborate with local government and community partners to help in the implementation of VAC programs and assist in promotion of VAC programs throughout Kendall, LaSalle, Bureau and Putnam counties to offer Para-transit services and nutrition to people in need.
