Newark Legion Garage Sale

Cleng Peerson Lodge meeting

1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Norway Community Building on Route 71. The special program will be Trolls In Art, a presentation and book-signing by Ingrid Kallick, award-winning illustrator. She will discuss some of the great Scandinavian artists who established the look of trolls and other hidden folk.

Gen. Toftoy Day

1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, the Norsk Museum, 3656 E. 2631st St. in Sheridan. Newly expanded exhibit honoring Army Maj. Gen. Holger Nelson Toftoy will be unveiled. A Norwegian son, Toftoy was born in LaSalle County in 1902. He helped lead the U.S. to win the space race during the Cold War. Last fall, the museum received recently declassified personal correspondence, orders, awards and Toftoy’s daily diary of 1945-1950.

Smallville Superfest

Car Wash Fundraiser

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Open Door, 405 S. Wells St. Hosted by the Aktion Club of Open Door, the car wash is by free-will donation only. A $3 lunch also will be available.
