Newark Legion Garage Sale

New Life for Old Bags

10:30 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month – next, Aug. 11 – at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. Volunteers turn discarded plastic shopping bags into plastic yarn to be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Donations of plastic bags can be left at the library. Superfest Book Sale

Friday, Aug. 17, through Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. The Friends of the Library Book Sale will be held in the meeting room during regular library hours. Beginning on Aug. 25 all items will be sold for $4 a bag, and VHS tapes and audio cassettes will be free.

Breakfast Buffet

Dearborn St. Sons of the American Legion will serve the all-you-can-eat meal featuring scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage, bacon, pancakes and made-to-order omelets. Chicken BBQ & Auction

Drive-thru meals are available. Live auction begins at 5 p.m. and the silent auction will go on nearly the whole evening. Stone Mill Museum Hours

Railroad St. The museum is filled with is filled with local memorabilia, settings of rooms with antique furniture, farm tools and items that were manufactured locally. Car Wash Fundraiser

11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Open Door, 405 S. Wells St. Hosted by the Aktion Club of Open Door, the car wash is by free-will donation only. A $3 lunch also will be available.
