DeKalb County receives $52K for emergency food and shelter programs

DeKALB – The National Board's Emergency Food and Shelter Program has selected DeKalb County to receive $52,718 to supplement area emergency food and shelter programs.

A local board composed of representatives from county government, churches, United Way, The Salvation Army, the American Red Cross and the homeless population will determine how the funds are allocated.

Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen to receive funds must be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government, be eligible to receive federal funds, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food or shelter programs and have a voluntary board if they are a private voluntary organization.

Public or private agencies interested in applying for the funding must contact Jess Collins at fema.efsp@dekalbcounty.org or visit www.dekalbcountycommunityaction.org for an application. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. May 22.
