The Sunday School children at United Methodist Church in Plano are collecting donations for a “Joy to the World” basket consisting of a heifer, four goats, two sheep and two llamas through Heifer International. These gifts will be given to families who do not get to enjoy the very basic items in life.

Donations are being accepted through Feb. 11. The students’ goal is $1,500 with an added incentive for a special presentation on Feb. 11 (provided they meet this goal).

These animals bring prosperity and self-reliance to families with a steady source of a small income, milk, and fertilizer for improving soil. This income provides much-needed medicine, food and schooling (things we take for granted). As the animals give birth, economic prospects of the receiving families become better and hope becomes a reality.

The community is invited to the worship service at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 11 to share in the Heifer Project special presentation as the children make their goal of $1,500. Anyone wishing to donate to this project may call the United Methodist Church office at 630-552-3700.
