Fox Valley Older Adult Services is planning a number of activities for the upcoming Sandwich Fair.

FVOAS is always looking for volunteers in Grannie’s Eatery, the craft booth or the parking lot during the Sandwich Fair.

Pat Boesche and Jean Slaughter, part of the artist community at FVOAS, have donated a handmade quilt that will be raffled off at the fair. Tickets, along with many other handmade and specialty items, will be available at the FVOAS Craft Booth.

Stop by the booth in Commercial Building 3, which will feature knit and crocheted items including dish cloths and chair booties. A representative from the Illinois ICASH program will be available to assist adults in claiming $2.5 billion in recovered cash from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, and Thursday, Sept. 7.

Stop by Grannie’s Eatery in Building 23 for a famous bloomin’ onion, Polancic’s huge pork tenderloin, homemade turkey sandwich, fried pickles and more.

Stop by Finally Fridays, FVOAS’ full-service bar, for a cold one, directly across from the fairgrounds. It is open fair week from 5 to 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

The agency, which serves seniors in DeKalb, Kane, Kendall, LaSalle and Bureau counties, is challenging the community to offer support. A pop challenge is being conducted to procure the many cases of name-brand soda that are needed to stock the coolers at Grannie’s Eatery.

FVOAS also is seeking volunteers for Grannie’s Eatery, the craft booth or the parking lot during the fair. All proceeds from the food building, craft booth and parking lot support area seniors in programs that improve and enrich independent living.

To volunteer or contribute a case or more of pop, call Becky at Fox Valley Community Center at 815-786-9404.
