24th Annual Cookie
and Candy Walk

New Life for Old Bags

10:30 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month – next, Dec. 14 – at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. Volunteers turn discarded plastic shopping bags into plastic yarn to be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Donations of plastic bags can be left at the library. Breakfast Buffet

8 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Plano American Legion Post 395, 510 E. Dearborn St. Sons of the American Legion will serve the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet featuring scrambled eggs, egg casserole, potatoes, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, waffles, made-to-order omelets and more. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for ages 11 and younger.

Free ESL Classes

Community Blood Drive

Holiday Food Drive

Through Dec. 16 at the Sandwich Public Library, 925 S. Main St. The library is collecting donations for the Franklin Mall Christmas Project. Sponsored by the Sandwich Lions Club, the program collects food for families within the Sandwich School system. Acceptable donations include nonperishable boxed/canned goods, peanut butter, jelly, canned meats, soups and cereals. Call the library at 815-786-8308 with questions.

Art Therapy

American Legion Fish Fries

Si Johnson Ave. The fish fry includes a choice of catfish or cod, fried or poached, with fries, hush puppies and a complete salad bar for $9. Carry-outs are available by calling 815-496-2380. The Dec. 20 special is pot roast, potatoes, gravy and green beans and includes the salad bar.

Fines for Food

Through Dec. 20 at the Somonauk Public Library, 700 E. LaSalle St. Nonperishable canned and boxed food can be donated to receive $1 off fines per item. Limit of 20 items for $20. Food items given to local churches and food pantries in Somonauk and Sandwich. Food must not have expired labels.

Teen Programs

Pancake Breakfast

Garfield St. Hosted by Boy Scout Troop 39, the all-you-can-eat breakfast fundraiser includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee, milk and orange juice. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for ages 5 to 12. The meal is free for children age 4 and younger.
