The Plano Legion Auxiliary Unit 395 accepted an invitation from the Ottawa Unit to attend its Oct. 7 meeting. The invitation offered the opportunity for surrounding units to meet and greet incoming District President Melinda Davis.
Plano officers attending were President Lori Minick, Vice President Amy Power and Secretary Becky Nelson.
“Anytime we can learn from the best in our organization, we will take it,” Minick said.
The women talked with Davis about a “shift” in leadership that Plano has embraced and plans to grow the unit exponentially over the next three to six months. Nelson is committed to bringing the unit’s mission to social media and continuing to keep the community in the loop via news releases and radio interviews.
“Social media is where a large population turns to for information. We [Unit 395] host an amazing Facebook page where a reader can find out what our upcoming events are, monthly projects and missions, and how they might be able to help out,” Nelson said.
Membership meetings are conducted monthly on the first Wednesday evening of the month.
December projects include a Veteran Shut-in Basket and Operation Christmas Card. The unit also will continue to host bi-monthly social nights. The Dec. 4 gathering will consist of a short meeting, followed by the annual Christmas party. Active members and guests are welcome to attend.
Plano’s auxiliary unit is one of the longest units in existence in northern Illinois. and it extends an invitation to anyone who would like to become a member.
