Norwegian Smorgasbord

Fines for Food

Through November at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. Pay your fines by making a donation (minimum $1) to the Plano Rockin’ Christmas program, which distributes food boxes to local families in need. The funds will be used to purchase perishable food items such as meat, produce, milk and butter.

New Life for Old Bags

10:30 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month – next, Nov. 9 – at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. Volunteers turn discarded plastic shopping bags into plastic yarn to be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Donations of plastic bags can be left at the library. Veterans Day Dinner

5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at American Legion Post 395, 510 E. Dearborn St. Richard Randall, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served from 1964-1968, with 50 years of public service with the Yorkville Police Department, Bristol-Kendall Fire District and Kendall County Sheriff, will be the speaker. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. Cost is $15 per person; all veterans or active military members attend for free. Seniors 60 and older pay $12 and ages 8 and younger attend for $4. Free ESL Classes

Christmas in the Country Arts, Crafts and Bake Sale

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Sandwich High School, Lynn Haskin Grade School and the Sandwich Middle School, 720 S. Wells St. There will be 150 crafters. Admission is $3 (proceeds benefit the Sandwich School Music Association) and a stamped hand will allow you into each building. No strollers and no smoking allowed in any building. Lunch will be available in the high school and middle school and the instant door prize drawing will be in the middle school.
