The town of Bologna has invited the public to attend the third annual Plano-Bologna-Sandwich Day event as part of National Bologna Day on Thursday, Oct. 24.
The celebration will take place, weather-permitting, at the corner of Route 34 and Tara Street near the Montcler Hotel – formerly known as the Timber Creek Inn – between Plano and Sandwich. In the event of inclement weather, events will be moved indoors to the hotel.
Festivities will begin at 4 p.m., featuring live music from the Baloney Brothers Band of Joliet, with official opening ceremonies scheduled for 5 p.m. Events this year include the “World’s Shortest Marathon,” a .005K (16 feet) Fun Run and the “That’s Baloney!” trivia contest.
This year, Sandwich Police Chief Jim Bianchi and Plano Police Chief Jonathon Whowell have been named the co-mayors of Bologna, Illinois.
Plano-Bologna-Sandwich Day doubles as a food drive to stock the local food pantries serving Plano and Sandwich. Those who bring nonperishable food items will be given a ticket for a bologna sandwich prepared by Wurst Kitchen.
Guests also can pay a $5 donation that would go to the food pantries in lieu of a food donation, and still receive a ticket for a bologna sandwich.
