The city of Sandwich, Brown-Miller American Legion Post 181 and the Lewis P. Schultz Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1486 will conduct a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at VFW Post 1486, 713 S. Main St., Sandwich.
A monument was dedicated at the Sandwich VFW in 2011 to honor those who were injured or lost their lives on 9/11, as well as all veterans of the military and the men and women currently serving our country. The monument also includes an engraved granite plaque, donated by G and L Countertops and engraved by King and Sons Monuments.
After the collapse of the twin towers in New York on 9/11, the only tree left standing near the rubble was a flowering pear tree. Sandwich Girl Scout Troop 4737 and Cub Scout Pack 345 planted a flowering pear tree at the VFW to represent the twin towers.
Join the VFW, American Legion, and the city of Sandwich in observing our freedom and the brave men and women of emergency services who risked their lives to save others.
